Hyland is committed to both supporting working parents and including families in all our fun.
This is especially true when an employee’s family grows. We starts with a simple shower gift: a special monogramed blanket, hat and onesie to welcome the new babe. Then, when the baby’s born, we let everyone share in the happy news with an announcement on our internal Web portal.
This year, we enhanced our short-term disability coverage for all qualifying employee events, strengthening our program and new parent support. These enhancements specifically impact new mothers, creating a more robust leave during the early maternity period.
Returning mothers can ease their transition back to work with a reduced schedule of 30 hours per week for the first month, with full-time pay. They’re also welcomed back with a photo frame, congratulatory note and a Starbucks gift card.
That’s not all. Not by a longshot. Here are a few more benefits Hyland parents and their families can enjoy:
We understand appreciation is a fundamental human need. But recognition for a job well done is about more than confirming the value of our employees’ work and boosting productivity. At Hyland, it is about showing how we’re there for one another as a family, and how individual contributions reinforce our whole-self approach to work.
That recognition philosophy is on display every week at our Monday Morning Meeting.
Hyland’s Monday Morning Meetings give us a chance to get together as a company each week to learn what’s new at Hyland or with OnBase, our signature product. We applaud new hires and special visitors, our peers’ additional training and certifications. And we’re eager to find out who made Player of the Week.
Are you the Player of the Week?
Player of the Week nominations come from managers and peers, as well as our customers. Each nomination reflects how the employee embodies Hyland’s Core Values - essential and indestructible principles that describe who we are and always need to be.
Every Player of the Week gets a spin at the wheel. And the prize wheel is no joke: gift cards a-plenty, season passes to Cedar Point Amusement Park (one hour west of Hyland’s headquarters and dubbed “the best amusement park in the world”), $100 cash, round-trip airfare for two – even an iPad.
Hyland recognizes employees in informal ways, too. Doing so not only provides validation, but a bit of fun for the company’s most valuable players. Staff may be singled out for jobs well done during department meetings, enjoy “reserved” parking or display a “major award” on their desks – a glowing replica of the leg lamp from A Christmas Story (part of which was shot here in Cleveland).
That’s just a small snapshot of how Hyland recognizes its employees. But one that really captures the unique way we heap praise on the work – and the giving and the camaraderie – our employees provide every day. Here’s a small sample of theways we recognize our family:
Hyland recognizes that engaged employees are both happy and productive regardless of whether their desk is in an office building or in a spare room off the upstairs hallway. We also live in Cleveland, where the weather can change on a dime, so we know getting into the office isn’t always an option.
That’s why we encourage employees to take advantage of working from home when they need the extra flexibility. And why we hire talented team members that may live a city, state, country or continent away.
Our remote employees are fully supported by their teams and leaders. They’re provided with the tools they need to efficiently do their jobs – and to feel connected to headquarters. We also make a concerted effort to include our field employees in all the fun.
Hyland offers many opportunities for employees to incorporate fitness – both physical and mental – into their wellness lifestyle.
Two on-site fitness centers provide more than 30 weekly fitness classes that range from intense weight lifting to slow flow yoga. Classes are offered before, during and after office hours. This convenient, flexible schedule allows employees to find their preferred class and time.
In addition to group classes, cardio machines and a fully equipped weight room are available for use 24/7, as well as indoor and outdoor basketball courts, an indoor volleyball court and outdoor tennis courts. Private locker rooms and showers include hair dryers and toiletries.
From bumps and bruises to primary care, Hylanders can take advantage of our on-site Wellness Center. Staffed daily by an experienced nurse practitioner, all services are available to Hyland employees and family members.
No Hyland health insurance plan needed to take advantage of services. Offerings include primary care and sick visits, health assessments, health coaching, minor injury exams and condition management services.
Nurturing Hylanders’ mental well-being
We know a healthy lifestyle means more than regular physical exercise. Hyland is focused on the mental well-being of our employees, as well.
Our Work Life Matters program is provided at no cost to employees. Completely confidential, the program helps those struggling to maintain a healthy work-life balance or to manage personal issues such as anxiety, depression or child and parent care.
Services include an online resource site featuring topics such as stress management, adoption, pregnancy and financial concerns; counseling via telephone for employees and their family; and financial and legal consultations.
Hyland’s Feel Right campaign encourages employees to practice stress management techniques. As part of that program, employees participate in Cleveland Clinic’s Stress Free Now meditation program. Educational sessions cover everything from sleep to managing stress at home and at work.
To further facilitate the campaign, Hyland created meditation rooms where weekly group meditations are held. This room is available for group or individual meditation at any time.
Time to rest, recharge and rejuvenate
Hyland established a four-week, paid Sabbatical Program to give eligible full-time domestic employees the opportunity to spend a significant span of time away from work – in addition to paid time off.
Hyland encourages employees to focus on connecting with family, friends, hobbies, travel, or whatever other interests they would like to pursue. The goal of the program is to give employees an opportunity to take a complete break from work so they can return recharged and reinvigorated.
We hire passionate people, and that passion extends to their personal and professional growth. Hyland supports this growth through a variety of training opportunities and learning-based programs focused on areas such as employee integration, career development, technical expertise and leadership skills.
Experienced industry trainers provide technical employee education, and our Learning & Organizational Development team is dedicated to showing Hylanders how to hone their talents and enhance their careers. Several programs and initiatives promote our professional and tech-related development objectives.
Onboarding new employees
Training begins as soon as new employees walk in the door. Each hire spends at least two weeks learning about Hyland and the OnBase product (some roles, even longer).
New hires are assigned an onboarding mentor with whom they meet regularly, participating in lunches, learning engagements and other activities. Hyland also provides Learning Liaisons to guide new employees through their first year.
Individual departments are encouraged to create and follow their own specialized onboarding programs, as well, focused on specific responsibilities and expectations. By providing the right information at the right time, we assist new hires in assimilating into Hyland’s culture, while helping them become productive sooner.
Career development
Our Career Development Initiative is an organization-wide effort to provide employees with career options and tools for managers to enhance development conversations. The initiative consists of the following phases:
Personal growth
Hyland encourages employees to grow in both their professional roles and personal lives. To that end, Hyland offers different avenues for employees who want to become more involved in their community and the neighborhoods around them.
Hyland also supports causes near and dear to employees by offering paid time off to volunteer and matching donations employees make to qualifying charities.
And for those looking to take their involvement a step further, skill-based volunteering goes beyond the traditional notion of employee volunteering. Hyland works with BVU, The Center for Nonprofit Excellence, to match employees with nonprofit organizations that can benefit from their unique skills and knowledge.
Part of the fun of working at Hyland is you never know what might happen. Pop-up People Places can show up anywhere on campus, offering food, drinks, photo booths, fun swag and opportunities to take a break and just hang out with coworkers. Check out #HylandLife on social media and you’ll see what we’re talking about.
We are famous for our work hard, play hard spirit. Along with the annual Clam ‘N’ Jam – a clam bake that features employee-provided musical entertainment, complete with a main stage, DJ and lights – our holiday parties (one for kids and one for adults) are always well-attended and full of surprises.
Last year’s employee party featured several unique party spaces, each with its own food and drink offerings and a house photographer with photos to take home. Employees had a shot at some incredible prizes at the holiday raffle, including Xbox game systems, wine and dining, gas and groceries, spa certificates, plane tickets, tickets to the suite at Quicken Loans Arena to see the Cavs, extra vacation days and a $3,500 vacation package – and much more.
Summer is host to regular stops by area food trucks, a visit or two from the ice-cream truck and our annual Hyland Outdoor Movie Night. Movie night is a family affair where kids and adults alike can stock up on cinema treats, popcorn and pizza. The feature presentation always includes a cartoon short or two and enough nostalgia to make you think you were at a drive-in movie.
The fact is, events that encourage employee camaraderie and celebrate company successes are a regular — and highly acclaimed — occurrence at Hyland. From annual software release parties to impromptu company-wide paper airplane contests, we make it a priority to show employees our appreciation through a variety of unique, fun activities.
